Four Nights at the Hotel Rodgers

Teedubyabee thumbnail
Teedubyabee More beautifully intimate off-kilter folk-tinged pop of the highest order. The wonky time signature on The Slippery Slide is a delight, the sax at the end of track 1 is perfection, the lyrics are spot on quotidian vignettes. Charmed. Favorite track: The Slippery Slide.

slept last night with the window open wide and I guess the darkness made its way inside you and me and the bottle make three and the minibar is calling so don't call me the minibar is calling so don't call me now self-dislike has got me in its coils because you shouted down the phone, seems like I made you paranoid well did you or didn't you where were you where weren't you last night now this hotel smells like something died this room just smells like something took so long to figure it all out but the bed is getting crowded, there's no room for doubt you and me and the bottle make three so roll over now, it's time to leave roll over now, it's time to leave

listen, listen, can you hear the wind blowing? is it windy where you are? is it raining? now I've got this beauty on my lap and an ounce of hash to get me through the morning here in Laurel Canyon 1972 now I just can't face the news today when my brothers are still out fighting in the jungle a million miles from LA I'm a simple man, got a simple mind no time for the lines of the politicians playing frisbee with my world now I don't have the answers but I know the answer's love so come and watch the flowers grow Judy dear come and see me soon I'll be waiting come and watch the flowers grow Joni dear come and see me soon here in Laurel Canyon 1972

when you get to the top of the slippery slide take a long look and drink in the view all the times that you met there you came for the view and stayed along for the ride then you sat at the bottom of the slippery slide red-faced and laughing and blue and you finally remember what you already knew you were only ever there for the ride in the cool dark of morning you dust off your eyes and sneak a quick peek inside like an itch you can't scratch or a wick with no match you are back on the slippery slide
4.
first you are in flames then you grow frightened of the rustling in the grate build yourself a fortress none can penetrate nail it down with a mortgage and a special date I'm sleeping on your floor thought I'd dodged that bullet til I fell through your door must have still been blind drunk from the night you took my paw seems I wanna piece of that pretty world of yours your head is on my shoulder, your lips are far away and it's making me shiver when the string snaps you'll get back to your endless wrangling of duty and pleasure love and paperwork so we put the past on ice I try to catch your drift across this papery sky and any moment one of us can tear that veil aside but now it's out I guess you'll stay inside and you go back to him I make a beeline for the mirror again well maybe I belong here just studying the lids that hold these reckless hopes til they reach the brim still I wanna hold you, protect you from this life but really what did I expect I know I'll never save you from your endless wrangling of duty and pleasure love and paperwork
